Daca v-ati intrebat ce unealta foloseste Apple pentru a grava logo-ul lor epic cu marul muscat pe iPhone, iPod sau MacBook-uri, nu mai trebuie sa cautati nicaieri. Iata mai jos in detaliu mecanismul folosit!
Descoperirea uneltei a fost facuta citind o cerere de brevet de inventie pe care Apple a depus-o catre USPTO (United Stater Patent & Trademark Office). Brevetul se numeste Aparathus and Method for Intricate Cuts. Priviti cat arata de ciudat!
Din respectiva cerere de brevetare, redam:
The cutting apparatus includes a base member and an elongate member extending from the base member. The elongate member includes a tapered region having an abrasive surface. The tapered region defines at least one vertex defining an angle of a desired cutout shape. Additionally, the tapered region is toothless.
Cu o descriere atat de clara, nu mai ramane decat sa spunem ca inventatorul uneltei este Kevin M. Kenney.
Dar intrebarea e: de ce a ales Apple aceasta metoda in loc de clasicele inscriptionari cu jet de apa sau laser? Un posibil raspuns ar fi ca metodele clasice de gravura sunt foarte scumpe in cazul logo-ului Apple, care este format din mai multe sectiuni. Apple a declarat ca uneltele traditionale "pot sa nu ofere precizia de care avem nevoie la un cost rezonabil". Ele "pot produce margini dure cu fibre expuse si cu o infatisare generala de neacceptat".
Apple descrie apoi in detaliu inventia brevetata de ei:
A tapered shaft having an abrasive surface is inserted into the aperture. The cross-section of the shaft is the shape of the desired intricate cut. The shaft gradually expands radially (i.e., gets bigger) along the length of the shaft. As the shaft increases in size, the cross-section shape stays the same. That is, the shape of the shaft remains the same along the length of the shaft as the cross-sectional size of the shaft increases due to the taper. The tapered shaft is toothless. That is, the tapered region does not include teeth, in contrast to conventional broach tools, for cutting through material.
Atentia la detaliu a companiei Apple este notorie, iar aceste citate din cererea de brevetare Apple nu fac decat sa o confirme.
